Obituary

Elder Terry Leander Graves, Sr. began life's journey on February 18, 1956 in Fort Worth, Texas to the union of Robert Lee and Lizzie Mae Graves. Elder Graves, Sr. was educated in the Forth Worth School District and graduated from Trimble Tech High School in 1974.
At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, and on January 2, 1977, he joined the fellowship of the saints at Greater Mount Tabor Christian Center. On June 27, 1987, Elder Terry married Elder Rosie Eason and to this union one son, Terry Graves, II. was born. That same year he moved to Pontiac, Michigan with his family. He joined Messiah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Roy C. Cummings and Reverend Sylvester Thompson. Elder Terry was a very active member serving in several ministries. Youth Ministry, one of the largest group in Pontiac, Michigan, Pastor Care and Comfort Club, Sunday School Teacher and preaching the gospel. Elder Graves, Sr, moved back to Fort Worth, Texas in 1991. Once in Fort Worth, he sought employment with the City of Fort Worth, Jos. A. Bank, and his last place of employment was NANA's Kitchen. Elder Graves, Sr. had several interests in life that included his love for shopping! He was a fashion icon known as "Mr. GQ," because of his extraordinary style of dress. He also enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends and last but not least, going in the refrigerator.
Elder Graves, Sr. had a zest for life, he was a people person with a kind and gentle heart and spirit. He loved shouting and praising God. He served in God's house faithfully in many ministries: Usher Board member, Male Chorus member, New Member Orientation Instructor, Armor Bearer, Sunday School Superintendent, Leader Day Prayer Band and the leader of TOWS, just to name a few. In 2018, Elder Graves, Sr. received his ordination as Elder.
On September 12, 2019, he heard a voice from heaven saying, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28 KJV)

My life is richer for knowing Terry and having him as the brother of my heart. I will hold and treasure the angel that he gave me at my mother's homegoing service until we meet again.
