Obituary

Shelia Smith Booker was born in Fort Worth Texas on July 25,
1960 to the parentage of Dora Lee Taplin and Charlie Smith, Sr.
Shelia graduated from Southwest High School and later attended
TCC were she received her Associate Degree. She went on to
earn her Bachelor’s degree from the University Of Arlington.

Shelia was a dedicated social worker for the State of Texas until
her illness cut her career short. She has devoted much of her
time and energy to being a caregiver; Shelia was committed to
helping others and always showed compassion and a loving,
caring spirit to those she serviced.

Shelia was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings:
Robert Taplin, James Taplin, Georgia Taplin, Shirley Moore
and Nina Watson.

As the sunset on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, Shelia was at peace as
she was welcomed by the Father’s call to come home. Gone
from our sight but never from our hearts.

Shelia leaves behind her husband of twenty-five years, Reverend
Alvin Booker, Jr.; brothers: George Taplin (Lynn), Charlie
Smith Jr. (Beverly), brother-in-law Clint Booker; sister-in-law
Doris Taplin; uncle Henry Lee Day; many beloved nieces and
nephews and loving family members and friends.

I just want the family know that I am praying with and for you. Sheila was a ray of light. We connected from the moment that we met at work and she felt like family to me. Although she was much too young to be my mother, she was a mother figure to me. She was strong in her Christian faith and she encouraged me in mine. Sheila was beautiful, intelligent, and classy. She was a genuine person and she lived her life authentically. I know that she is at peace but will always love and miss her. God Bless ! Tambra Mason-Wooldridge
