Obituary

Michael Leonard Thomas was born on July 12, 1958 in Houston, Texas. His birth mother, Ida Mae Hutchinson, passed away when Michael and his siblings were young. George and Thelma Thomas of Fort Worth raised Michael in the heart of Stop Six as their own child where the family was members of Saint James AME Church.

He was preceded in death by his birth mother, Ida Mae Hutchinson; parents, George and Thelma Thomas; sister, Jennie Mae Fleming; brother, George Thomas; and granddaughter Dorian Addison Davis.

He attended and graduated from Dunbar High School where he played the saxophone in both the marching and stage bands. Michael married Valeria Jo Humphries and with this union they were blessed with a beautiful daughter named Veronica.

Michael later attended Paul Quinn College in Waco, he was initiated in the Fall 1982 Zeta Eta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

Mike had a brilliant mind and shared his passion for politics and world affairs with anyone that would lend an ear or an argument. He worked various jobs including the Corps of Engineers in Kentucky.

He leaves to cherish his memory daughter, Veronica L. McEwing sisters, Mary Tatum Smith *known as
“Florine” (Ervie), Daisy Madison (Andre), and Jo Annette Taylor (Curtis); brother, Anthony Young; aunts, Cora
Faye Emanuel and Hercelia Martin*known as “Sister”; uncle, Alvin Hutchinson*known as “Brother”; grandsons, Dalton Alexander Davis and Donovan Ashton Davis; special brothers, Gary Allen, Tony Drake, Kent Hardie, and David Wayne Humphries; and a host of relative and friends.

MICHAEL LEONARD THOMAS has transitioned from time into eternity. I knew of Michael through his sister Florine. She was so proud of him and his latest accomplishments.
My condolences goes out to his family, friends and all who knew and loved him. Cherish the fond memories that you have of beloved Michael. May the Lord comfort you during this time of loss. Stay safe and be blessed.
