Obituary for Donald Hopperstead

Don Hopperstead, 61, passed away on Monday, November 16, 2020. Born April 28, 1959, he was the eldest son of Conrad and Ann B. Hopperstead and long-time resident of Irving, Texas.

Don’s joys in life were music, the Dallas Cowboys, and his family. His Favorite musician was Eric Clapton. So much so that he wanted his daughter to be names “Layla” but decided on Erica instead. Don followed the Dallas Cowboys fanatically and amassed a large collection of Cowboys memorabilia during his life. Don greatly enjoyed family gatherings in Sabinal with the Hopperstead grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousin for family sing-a-longs and music, especially during the holidays. His love of music led to his learning to play the guitar and his collection of guitars.

Don graduated from Irving High School in 1977 and was responsible for information technology (IT) for the Original Satellite Systems for Las Colinas as the city grew in the 1970”s and 1980’s.

He is preceded in death by his only daughter, Erica JoAnn Hopperstead, and both his parents and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Survivors include his sister, Janice Aileen Hopperstead of Grand Prairie; his aunts, Irene Braden Hoadley of San Marcos and Sue Carol Hopperstead of Pipe Creek; his uncle, Jim Clayton of Vanderpool; his niece, Danielle Nicole Harris and family; his nephew, Cody Wayne Hopperstead; and his cousins- Jim Clayton, Jr. of Vanderpool, Debra Day of Boise, ID, Valery Noakes of Sedona, AZ, Denise Moore and family of Sinton, Deanna Dickson and family of Austin, Julie Doughtery and family of Austin,

The family will hold private memorial services.
